FUTP60!

Hey Friends!  This year some of our students were involved in the Fuel Up To Play 60 program!  Today we hosted a smoothie taste test at our school breakfast!  We offered two choices of smoothie- a blueberry/banana and a chocolate/banana.  Yum!  It was a pretty hectic setup because we had to peel bananas, scoop yogurt, get a 30 lb. case of blueberries, and blend the smoothies on the spot.  Our student ambassadors took trays of samples out into our hallways and had kids vote on which was their favorite.  The results are in... CHOCOLATE BANANA wins.  :)
Thanks to the FUTP60 team for your help this year!!

Vocabulary Check-In: hosted, lb. (what's that an abbreviation for?!), hectic, student ambassadors

Treasure Hunt!

Our class has been busy reading the book Treasure Island lately.  Not only does that book have a lot of awesome vocabulary in it, but it also gave us an opportunity for some problem solving.  Our teacher, Mrs. Scranton created a map and list of clues to lead us to some treasure.  We had to put our heads together to locate the treasure chest.  The chest was hidden in Murphy's kennel in Mrs. Ohlenkamp's office!  It was an awesome adventure :)

Vocabulary Check-In: opportunity, locate
Figurative Language Check-In: put our heads together

Dogs In Hot Water Part II

Awhile back we talked about what it means to be in hot water.  We had so much fun with it that we decided to do it again.  Today each of my friends got a picture of a dog doing something mischievous.  Here's what they had to say!! :)

Maddie: Today my teacher gave me a picture of a dog laying in mud.  I think this happened because he wanted to cool down.  This is a problem because he can't go in the house until he is clean.  One way to solve this problem would be to keep him on a leash.  Some trouble Murphy could get into this summer would be to tear a cell phone cord.

Nick: Today my teacher gave me a picture of one spraying another dog with silly string.  I think this happened because the spray can was out of the cupboard.  This is a problem because he is in big trouble for making a mess.  One way to solve this problem would be to put the can in the cupboard.  Some trouble Murphy could get into this summer would be to eat food that was left on the table.

Anthony: Today my teacher gave me a picture of a dog eating a turkey on the table.  I think this happened because the dog was hungry.  This is a problem because he might get sick.  One way to solve this problem would be to put the dog in his kennel.  Some trouble Murphy could get into this summer would be to eat a pair of shoes.

Aaron: Today my teacher gave me a picture of a dog that ripped up the sofa.  I think this happened because he thought it was a pillow that he plays with.  This is a problem because the owner will not have anything to sit on.  One way to solve this problem is to replace the sofa with a new one.  Some trouble Murphy could get into this summer would be to cause a car accident.

Jake: Today my teacher gave me a picture of a dog who tore up all the toilet paper from the bathroom.  I think this happened because he was sad that he was left home alone.  This is a problem because now there is no toilet paper left for the humans.  One way to solve this problem would be to shut the bathroom door when leaving the house.  Some trouble Murphy could get into this summer would be to tear up Delilah's stuffed animals.

Christian: Today my teacher gave me a picture of a dog eating a phone.  I think this happened because he might have been curious or hungry.  Thisi s a problem because the owner will have a missing phone.  One way to solve this problem would be to keep the phone in a safe place.  Some trouble Murphy could get into this summer would be trespassing into someone's yard and pooping on their lawn.

Ishmael: Today my teacher gave me a picture of the dog eating Fruit Loops.  I think this happened because the dog was hungry.  This is a problem because it might be someone else's Fruit Loops.  One way to solve this problem would be move the cereal somewhere else so the dog won't get it.  Some trouble Murphy could get into this summer would be chasing a cat.

Vocabulary Check-In: mischievous, ripped, bathroom, kennel, tear, trespassing, problem, left

Senior Slide?

Hey All!  It's hard to believe but some of my friends are down to their last 15 days of school!  I keep asking them if they are on the senior slide yet but they say they are keeping their nose to the grindstone until graduation!  Have you heard of the senior slide?  My friend Maddie also calls it senior-itis.  :)
